Danish wetlands remained poor with plant species 17-years after restoration

For more than two decades, wetland restoration has been successfully applied in Denmark as a tool to protect watercourses from elevated nutrient inputs agriculture, but little is known about how the flora and fauna respond restoration. The main objective of this study was therefore to: (1) examine plant community characteristics 10 sites River Odense Kratholm catchment, restored between 2001 2011 by re-meandering stream disconnecting tile drains, (2) explore whether effects on change with age Specifically, we hypothesised that composition, species richness diversity would improve eventually approach state natural vegetation. We found prevailing communities could be characterised humid grasslands, moist fallow fields improved whereas abundance (e.g., rich fens, fen-sedge beds grasslands) lower both recently well older wetlands. Additionally, did not seem suggest continued high input at combination restricted dispersal may hamper recovery stay botanically poor for many decades.
